Zolespan 4mg Injection is used to treat or prevent weakening of the bones (osteoporosis) caused by Menopause or use of steroids. Using this medicine can reduce your risk of breaking bones. It is also used to treat high levels of calcium in people who have cancer. It is manufactured by Verve Health Care. Zolespan 4mg Injection is given by a doctor or nurse. How much you are given, and how often, will be decided by your doctor. Your doctor will ask you to drink plenty of water before the injection, to avoid getting dehydrated. It may take several days to get the full benefit of this drug.

Zolespan 4mg Injection is only part of a treatment program that may also include changes to your diet and taking calcium and vitamin supplements. You should not be given this medicine if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. Before taking it, tell your doctor if you have kidney problems or low calcium levels.

How Does Zolespan 4 Works?

Zolespan 4 mg Injection contains zoledronic acid. Zoledronic acid works by binding tightly to bone and preventing the removal of calcium by osteoclasts (a type of bone cell that destroys bone tissue). This prevents the osteoclasts from breaking down the bone and helps to keep the bones strong and minimises the risk of bone fractures.

Dosage of Zolespan 4 mg

The dosage of Zolespan 4mg (Ondansetron) depends on the condition being treated, the patient’s age, and their medical history. For chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV), the usual adult dose is 4mg administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) just before chemotherapy, followed by additional doses if needed. In severe cases, a higher dose may be required as per the doctor’s prescription.

For postoperative nausea and vomiting (PONV), a single 4mg IV or IM dose is given just before anesthesia or surgery to prevent nausea. If vomiting occurs after surgery, an additional 4mg dose may be administered as needed, with a minimum interval of four hours between doses.

Warning & Precautions

1. QT Prolongation & Heart Risks:

• Ondansetron can prolong the QT interval, increasing the risk of irregular heartbeats, which may lead to serious complications like torsades de pointes. Use with caution in patients with heart conditions.

2. Serotonin Syndrome Risk:

• When used with other serotonergic drugs (e.g., antidepressants, opioids), it may cause serotonin syndrome, leading to agitation, hallucinations, fever, sweating, and muscle stiffness.

3. Liver Disease:

• Patients with liver impairment should not exceed 8mg per day as Ondansetron is metabolized in the liver.

4. Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:

• Should be used during pregnancy only if prescribed by a doctor. It is unclear if the drug passes into breast milk, so caution is advised.

5. Electrolyte Imbalance:

• Patients with low potassium or magnesium levels should use this medication cautiously due to an increased risk of heart issues.
